Greetings,
It
has been just over one year since we began sending our Diversity &
Inclusion Resource Round-Up emails. As always, if you have resources that fall
under the diversity and inclusion umbrella you feel might be helpful or
interesting for the ILA membership, please feel free to send them my way and I
will work with the committee to share them out as appropriate. The ILA
Committee for Diversity & Inclusion’s charge includes promoting awareness
of issues relating to diversity and inclusion to the greater ILA membership.
While we know we can’t be comprehensive, we will do our best to collect timely
resources on library-related issues and share those approximately once per
month.
We
are also working to conduct an assessment of needs survey to learn more about
Iowa library employees, their experiences, and the communities they serve. The
survey will gather baseline demographic information from library professionals
and will focus on experiences and interests in relation to diversity, equity,
and inclusion. We seek the input of all voices within the library, including
part-time staff, full-time staff, trustees/board members, retired
professionals, and administrators, as we value bringing all perspectives to the
table, including those who are not ILA members. Be watching for that survey to
launch in April and, when it arrives, please share it with your colleagues.
